The test events

The Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) has six events: deadlift, standing power throw, hand-release push-ups, sprint-drag-carry, plank, and two-mile run. Score 540+ with 80+ points per event and you are exempt from the body-fat assessment under AR 600-9.

Body composition in 2026

The 540 exemption is the single highest-leverage ACFT outcome for body composition — it removes the tape entirely for strong, lean soldiers.

Why it matters

Body composition and fitness are separate gates. A service member can pass the run but still be flagged on the WHtR / circumference screen, and vice versa — train both.

Quick answers

Can I pass the U.S. Army fitness test but fail body composition?
Yes. They are separate components. A failing WHtR or circumference screen can flag you for a secondary evaluation even with a strong run and push-up score.
Where is the official standard published?
