U.S. Air Force PT & Fitness Test Standards (2026)
What the U.S. Air Force physical fitness test requires in 2026, how it pairs with the new body-composition screen, and the scores that matter most.

The test events
The Air Force fitness assessment scores waist (now the WHtR screen), push-ups, sit-ups, and a 1.5-mile run. A failing body-composition component can fail the whole test even with strong aerobic scores.
Body composition in 2026
Under DAFMAN 36-2905 (January 2026), the WHtR screen is the body-composition component; the run, push-up, and sit-up scores drive the fitness score.
Why it matters
Body composition and fitness are separate gates. A service member can pass the run but still be flagged on the WHtR / circumference screen, and vice versa — train both.
