About this calculator
Total Daily Energy Expenditure estimates the calories you burn across a full day at a chosen activity level.
The formula
TDEE = BMR × activity factor (sedentary ~1.2 … very active ~1.9).
Frequently asked questions
Q: Which activity factor fits me?
A: Use your typical week, not your best day. Most people land near 1.4–1.6.
Q: How do I eat for a goal?
A: Add ~300–500 kcal to bulk or subtract to cut; large gaps hurt training.
Q: Does TDEE include exercise?
A: Yes, via the activity factor; very hard training days can exceed the estimate.
How to read the result
Total daily energy expenditure multiplies the resting rate by an activity factor, which means the multiplier you choose matters more than the arithmetic. The factors are broad buckets, and most people place themselves one level too high, which produces a target that is too generous and a plan that does not move the number they are watching.
The honest way to use the figure is as a hypothesis. Start from the estimate, hold intake steady for two to three weeks, and compare the change in weight against what the plan predicted. If nothing moved, the real expenditure is below the estimate and the input needs adjusting. A weekly average is far more informative than any single day, because day-to-day weight swings with water, sodium, and training load, and those swings easily swamp a daily deficit.
