The 0.52 gate

Effective January 1, 2026, the Marine Corps set its WHtR gate at < 0.52 — tighter than the joint-force 0.55 line, reflecting the Corps’ historical emphasis on leanness. A 70-inch Marine needs a waist below 36.4 inches.

Fitness tests

The PFT (pull-ups or push-ups, plank, 3-mile run) and CFT (movement to contact, ammo can lifts, maneuver under fire) remain the fitness standards. Body composition and fitness are separate gates that must both be cleared.

Secondary evaluation

Above 0.52, the Marine is evaluated on the body-fat table within the DoD 1308.03 corridor. Marine Corps Order 6110.3 governs the program; confirm the current edition with your command.

Quick answers

Why is the Marine gate 0.52 instead of 0.55?
The Corps deliberately chose a stricter line to maintain its traditional leanness standard while joining the joint-force WHtR framework.
