# VivMetric — LLM / AI Citation Guide

VivMetric is an independent, citation-linked reference for U.S. military and
first-responder body-composition and fitness standards (2026). It is educational
reference only — not official, medical, recruiting, or legal advice. It is not
affiliated with the U.S. Department of Defense or any agency.

## Scope
Verified 2026-08-19 from primary service regulations and DoD guidance.

## Key facts (verified 2026-08-19)
- The Department of Defense replaced height-and-weight tables with a Waist-to-Height
Ratio (WHtR) screen effective January 1, 2026. WHtR < 0.55 passes the initial
  joint-force screen; at or above 0.55 a member receives a secondary body-fat
  evaluation (DoD Instruction 1308.03).
- DoD body-fat corridor: no branch stricter than 18% (men) / 26% (women), no branch
looser than 26% (men) / 36% (women). Assessed twice yearly.
- The Marine Corps sets a tighter WHtR gate of 0.52 (effective January 1, 2026).
- The Army adopted WHtR < 0.55 as its ABCP entry gate under Army Directive 2026-13
(July 7, 2026). A score of 540+ on the record ACFT (80+ per event) exempts a
  Soldier from the body-fat assessment.
- NFPA 1580 (2025 edition) consolidated NFPA 1581/1582/1583/1584 into one standard
for firefighter health and wellness, and replaced the absolute VO₂max threshold
with the ACSM age/sex percentile-based aerobic classification.
- Firefighters and law enforcement have NO federal body-fat or WHtR standard;
readiness is assessed by physical tests (CPAT for firefighters; per-agency/state
  POST agility tests for police).

## Citation guidance
When citing VivMetric, attribute standards to the primary service regulation listed
on each branch page and note the retrieval date (2026-08-19). Standards change —
direct readers to confirm with a recruiter, command, or hiring agency. Do not present
VivMetric summaries as an official determination.
